お父さん、娘には勝てないよなー

He seemed almost ready to cry himself.

お父さんは、もう少しで涙がでそうでした。

‘All right,’ he said.

「わかったよ」とお父さんは言いました。

‘You go back to the house and I will bring the runt when I come in’.

先に家に戻っておきなさい。お父さんが後で子豚を連れて来るから。

‘You go back to the house and I will bring the runt when I come in’.

 この１行ですが。

かわいい娘に、折れるお父さんの優しい気持ちが伝わってくる文章ですね。

娘から、泣いて子豚を殺さないで！と言われて、それでも娘の言うことを受け入れないお父さんは
いるのでしょうか？　お父さんって娘に特別甘いですもんね。

私もお母さんより、お父さん子でした。あはは。

英語のＮＯって？

 ‘The pig couldn’t help being born small, could it?

豚は自分で大きく生まれてこれないよね？

 If I had been very small at birth, would you have killed me?’

もし私が小さく生まれていたら、お父さんは私を殺していたの？

Mr Arable smiled. ‘Certainly not,’ he said, looking down at his daughter with love.

お父さんは微笑みながら、「もちろんないよ！」と言い、優しくファーンを見つめました。

Certainlyってよく使いますよねー。

例えば、May I use your pen? “Certainly”

This video is not worth watching. “Certainly not”

英語というのは、ちょっと混乱する時がありますよね。

この例題ですが、「このビデオは見る価値がない」　「まったくその通りだ」

日本語だと、同意した場合　ＮＯＴはつきませんよね？

だから、日本語的に考えるとCertainly not　ではなく、Certainlyだけなります。

だから、日本人はよく英語のＹＥＳとＮＯをごちゃ混ぜにしてしまっています。

私もそうです。

英語は否定文で賛成する。ＮＯのことは、ＮＯと賛成。

例えば、I don’t like coffee. もしあなたもコーヒーが嫌いで、意見が同じ場合。

No I don’t ですね。　同じ意見で賛成しても、Yes I do ではありません。

涙だらけのファーン

‘Please don’t kill it!’ she sobbed. 
‘It’s unfair.’ Mr Arable stopped walking.

‘Fern,’ he said gently, ‘you will have to learn to control yourself.’

‘Control myself?’ yelled Fern. ‘This is a matter of life and death,

and you talk about controlling my self.’

Tears ran down her cheeks and she took hold of the axe

and tried to pull it out of her father’s hand.

ファーンは泣きじゃくって「おねがいだから、ころさないで」と言いました。

‘It’s unfair.’ Mr Arable stopped walking.

お父さんは歩いているのをやめ、「まちがってるよ」と言いました。

‘Fern,’ he said gently, ‘you will have to learn to control yourself.’

「ファーン、自分の気持ちをおさえない。」お父さんは優しく言いました。

‘Control myself?’ yelled Fern. ‘This is a matter of life and death, 
and you talk about controlling my self.’

ファーンは、「気持ちをおさえる？生きるか、死ぬかっていうのに」とさけびました。

おとうさんは歩いているのをやめ、「まちがってるよ。ファーン、自分の気持ちを
おさえなさい。」とやさしく言いました。
ファーンは、、「気持ちをおさえる？生きるか、死ぬかっていうのに」とさけび、
ほっぺを涙だらけにして、お父さんの持っているおのをうばいとろうとしました。
